Support Herndon Home

Your gift is an investment in the Herndon legacy. Financial support of the Herndon Foundation makes it possible to maintain and expand the Game Changer Entrepreneur and Scholarship programs for high school and college students, preserve the Herndon Home Museum, conserve the Herndon art and personal collections, conduct educational and outreach programming in schools and communities, and more.

Since its inception, the Foundation has been a major benefactor to metro-Atlanta institutions and organizations, including but not limited to First Congregational Church, Gate City Day Nursery Association, Greater Atlanta Community Chest, and Morris Brown College. At the national level, the Foundation supported the cause of economic and social development associated with the civil rights movement via contributions to the United Negro College Fund, Inc., and the N.A.A.C.P. Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. Since 1983, the Foundation has been committed to the financial support and operation of the Herndon family residence as a home museum.

A Piece of Black History

Meet the Herndon Family

American barber and entrepreneur, Alonzo Franklin Herndon was founder and president of the Atlanta Life Insurance Company, one of the most successful black-owned insurance businesses in the nation. At the time of his death in 1927, he was also Atlanta‘s wealthiest black citizen, owning more property than any other African-American.
